AVRAMAR, the Mediterranean’s leading producer of gilthead sea bream and European seabass, has announced the launch of a solar energy project featuring 1,413 fotovoltaic panels, marking a significant step forward in its sustainability efforts.
In partnership with Quantica, a solar engineering firm under the Imagina Energía Group, AVRAMAR’s initiative now supplies 20% of its annual energy needs. This reduction in conventional energy use equates to offsetting 462 tonnes of CO2 emission per year, comparable to planting 2,897 trees over a 25-year period.
The solar panels have been installed at three key facilities: Aguilas, where 365 panels (202.9 kWp) are now operational, and Burriana, which host two systems consisting of 650 (357.5 kWp) and 407 (221.8 kWp) panels respectively. This renewable energy investment significantly reduces the company’s carbon footprint while boosting operational efficiency.
Tahiche Lacomba, Managing Director of AVRAMAR Spain, expressed his pride in the company’s leadership in sustainability, stating, “We are proud to contribute to the sustainable development of our sector and to always lead with responsibility, one of the core principles of our business philosophy.”
This project aligns with the European Union’s climate change directives, which aim for carbon neutrality in 2050. It also adopts an innovative financial model through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which eliminates the need for upfront investment.
Under the PPA scheme, businesses only pay for the energy the consume, offering fixed or indexed pricing. This model ensures broader access to solar energy by making it cost-effective for companies of all sizes. “We are defining the energy paradigm in the primary sector, offering comprehensive solutions tailored to each company’s needs, from installation to maintenance,” said Víctor Gaeta, Quantica’s Manager in the Valencian Community.
