This Fish Producer’s Organisation, OP Del Pesce, recognised by MASAF – Ministry of Agriculture Food Sovereignty and Forests, and bringing together five fish farmers as well as cooperatives, announces the first stocking of greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili) at the Orbetello facility.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy for production diversification, confirming the company’s commitment to exploring new market opportunities and expanding the range of farmed species.
The juveniles used for this stocking come from a hatchery in Spain, under the framework of an international trade agreement that strengthens synergies among Mediterranean operators and ensures high standards of quality and traceability.
The product will be available on the market from spring-summer 2026, further confirming OP Del Pesce’s commitment to carefully planning the development of new productions and consistently ensuring the highest level of quality.
Through this initiative, OP Del Pesce expands its production portfolio and aims to respond more comprehensively to the needs of the retail and Ho.Re.Ca. sectors, offering high-quality, fully traceable products obtained in full compliance with the strictest animal welfare regulations.
“The decision to start producing greater amberjack,” explains Commercial Director Salvatore Uttaro, “represents a targeted investment to diversify and enrich our range. Diversification is a strategic lever that allows us to strengthen our competitiveness and offer our business partners and final consumers new consumption opportunities linked to premium Italian aquaculture.”
Following this initial trial, OP Del Pesce plans to scale up production, consolidating the growth and innovation pathway that has always distinguished the company.
It is worth recalling that Orbetello facility stands out for its integration of tradition and innovation: on the one hand, it preserves sustainable farming practices rooted in the lagoon ecosystem; on the other, it employs modern aquaculture technologies to ensure production continuity and high-quality standards.
