Stolt Sea Farm, a leading producer of turbot and sole through recirculating aquaculture system, has begun construction of a new seafood processing and research and development centre in Rianxo, A Coruña, Spain.

The start of the works was marked by an official groundbreaking ceremony held last week, attended by the President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, along with representatives from the local and regional governments.

The new centre represents a major step in Stolt Sea Farm’s strategy to enhance its operations in Europe and improve customer satisfaction. According to the company, the project underlines its commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in production and processing.

In its first phase, the development will comprise a 21,500 square-metre facility and create more than 100 skilled jobs in the local area. The plant will focus on packaging whole sole as well as value-added products made from sole and turbot. It will also serve as the base for future product lines, with an annual processing capacity exceeding 14,000 tonnes of high-quality fish.

The site will include a new research and development laboratory to support food safety, logistics and innovation. The upgraded facilities are designed to improve sample handling and strengthen Stolt Sea Farm’s capabilities in developing new products and maintaining the highest standards of quality.

The investment marks a key milestone in our journey to transform our business and offer the best possible experience for our customers and consumers,” said Jordi Trias, president of Stolt Sea Farm.

The Centre is not just a new facility, it is central to our vision for a future built on innovation, quality, and a deep understanding of evolving consumer expectations. It’s one of the ways we are delivering on our purpose of ensuring future generations continue to enjoy wonderful seafood,” the company stated.
