Egypt’s Suez Canal Aquaculture Company, a subsidiary of the Suez Canal Authority, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Spanish firm Grupo Tejedor Lázaro, which specialises in aquafeed production and the management of fish farms.

The signing ceremony took place last week in the presence of Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, and Christina Frailey, Deputy Head of the Spanish Mission in Egypt.

According to the Egyptian government, the agreement forms part of a wider national effort to strengthen international partnerships in strategic sectors. Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized that the MoU “is linked to food security in the areas of fishing, aquaculture and the feed industry”-sectors in which Egypt “has made tangible progress in recent years.”

He went on to say that “there are promising investment opportunities in the fishing sector, especially in light of the major development this industry has seen recently, with many locations being proposed for aquaculture.”

Lieutenant General Rabie added that the signing reflects Egypt’s aim to “promote investment and attract foreign capital to contribute alongside national funding to the establishment of large-scale sustainable development projects.”

The partnership aims to encourage technical and commercial collaboration in aquaculture, with the goal of launching new projects and enhancing existing ones-in line with Egypt’s strategic focus on improving food security and advancing economic sustainability.
