Starting this Monday, the Valencia Conference Centre is set to host Aquaculture Europe 2025 (AE2025 Valencia), with over 3,000 delegates attending, making it the largest gathering in the event’s history.
The event, which run until Thursday 25 September, is estimated to generate an economic impact of over €2million for the city. Beyond this financial boost, it provides a crucial opportunity to present aquaculture to the public as a transformative sector capable of building a more resilient and efficient global food system.
Organised by the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) with the Institute of Aquaculture Torre de la Sal (IATS-CSIC) as the local host, the conference will feature more than 800 scientific papers. Such was the demand that the event was a sell-out several months in advance, with over 200 international exhibitors confirmed.
Which such a high caliber and quantity of experts gathering for AE2025 in Valencia, it’s the perfect opportunity for academia and industry to showcase the advances and innovations that are cementing aquaculture’s key role for the future.
Aquaculture is reliable and affordable source of high-quality protein, essential for feeding a growing global population. Through keynote speeches, such as the only by researcher Carlos M. Duarte, the message will be reinforced that aquaculture is a cornerstone of nutrition, providing not only protein but also vitamins and fatty acids crucial for good health.
The event will also provide a platform to delve into integrated aquaculture systems, demonstrating how this circular economy approach is being adopted to maximise productivity and minimise waste.
Furthermore, AE2025 in Valencia is the ideal venue to highlight the sustainable practices that set the sector apart. Academia, working hand-in-hand with industry, is demonstrating that aquaculture has the potential to produce food with a low environmental impact.
Finally, the congress will serve to show how technological innovations are the driving force behind aquaculture’s sustainability. A key highlight will be the talk by Elisabetta Giuffra (INRAE, France), who will present the latest advances in genomics applied to aquatic species.
There is nothing more sustainable than giving consumer what they demand in an organized way and with an eye to the future. This is why the presentation of Joan Riera from Kantar Worldpanel, offering a snapshot of aquaculture product consumption in Spain and Europe, is so important.
Ultimately, AE2025 Valencia is an unmissable event that goes far beyond a simple gathering of academics and aquaculture professionals. It is an opportunity to communicate to society with a single voice that this is an innovative industry committed to today’s society.
