Concerns over microplastics and their potential impact on aquaculture have escalated in recent years due to the ability to infiltrate aquatic ecosystems and affect both marine life and human health. In aquaculture, microplastics pose not only an environmental risk but also present specific challenges for sustainability and public perception of aquaculture products.
For this reason, the forthcoming edition of Aquaculture Europe 2025, taking place from the 22nd to the 25th of September in Valencia, Spain, under the theme “Aquaculture for Everyone: Invest in Your Planet”, will dedicate a session to discussing this critical point. Organised by the European Aquaculture Society, the session titled “Microplastic, Litter, and Ecotoxicity” aims to foster a robust debate.
Dr. Inmaculada Varó, senior scientist at the Instituto Torre de la Sal of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and convener of the session, invites experts to share their insights and latest findings. The focus is not only on discussing the impacts but also on exploring innovative solutions that can be implemented to minimise their presence in our oceans and aquaculture systems.
The event offers a unique platform for aquaculture professionals worldwide to exchange ideas, forge collaborations, and discuss the most effective practices to address this environmental challenge.
Thus, participants interested in presenting oral presentations or e-posters are encouraged to submit their proposals by the 1st of May for presentations and by the 15th of August for the e-posters.
