BioMar has announced a strategic advancement in its sourcing of local soy-based ingredients for aquafeed, reinforcing the company's commitment to its 2030 Sustainability Ambitions. The initiative, driven by BioMar France and BioMar Iberia, centres on enhancing supply chain resilience and environmental performance through regionally sourced materials.
Throughout 2024, as noted by BioMar, sourcing teams in France and Spain evaluated a range of European suppliers offering soybean raw materials with reduced deforestation risk and lower transport emissions. The new suppliers met the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and offered traceable, high-quality soybean oil derived through specialised processing methods that preserve nutritional integrity.
Adopting these new sources involved a period of internal formulation work and production line adjustments to ensure consistent performance in feed. Trials confirmed that the new raw materials maintained nutritional quality while aligning with BioMar’s environmental targets.
“The transition to regional soy suppliers brings clear benefits across quality, traceability, and environmental performance,” said Sebastián Diaz, Sourcing Manager for BioMar West Med. “It also reinforces our ability to deliver on our sustainability commitments without compromising on feed functionality.”
These developments support a more resilient local supply chain while contributing to reduced emissions and a lower environmental footprint in feed production.
With these new supplier relationships, BioMar continues to optimise raw material sourcing to meet both customer needs and responsibility goals.
