BioMar has obtained ASC Feed Certification for its production facility in Dueñas, Spain. As a supplier of aquaculture feed for Spain, Portugal, and markets in North Africa, this certification marks a decisive step in BioMar’s global strategy to provide ASC conforming feeds in key regions.

The facility in Dueñas is key to BioMar’s presence in Southern Europe, delivering high-performance feed for a wide range of species including seabass, seabream, trout, and other marine and freshwater fish. With this new certification, producers across the Iberian countries and North Africa can now access AS conforming feed locally, supporting their ability to meet rising market expectations for transparency, responsibility, and certification alignment.

With this achievement, we are proud to support our customers in Spain and Portugal, markets that play a leading role in European aquaculture, and to strengthen our commitment to responsible aquaculture,” says Luis Garcia Romero, Managing Director of BioMar in the Western Mediterranean & Africa Region.

The ASC Feed Standard sets out strict requirements across environmental impact, social and labour rights, health and safety, and responsible sourcing of raw materials. Certification of the Dueñas facility reinforces BioMar’s dedication to aligning technical performance with responsible feed practices.

The ASC certification obtained by BioMar for its Dueñas facility is the result of a thorough independent audit process, in which compliance with strict requirements regarding environmental impact, labor rights, health and safety, and responsible sourcing of raw materials has been verified. At DNV, we highlight that the documentary traceability and transparency in the internal control procedures implemented by BioMar ensure not only regulatory compliance, but also continuous improvement in risk management and the sustainability of the aquaculture supply chain", says Javier Soria, Food industry Director of DNV in Iberia.

Spain and Portugal collectively account for a significant share of Europe’s farmed seafood production, and access to ASC conforming feed is becoming increasingly important as global markets demand more traceable and transparent products. It is important to highlight that by the end of October 2025, ASC certified farms will be required to source certified feed. Therefore, BioMar stands out as a reliable solution for maintaining ASC certification and continued market access.

Responsible production is no longer a niche requirement, it’s becoming the industry standard,” adds Luis. “This certification allows us to better serve our customers in the region with feeds that meet both regulatory demands and the expectations of retailers and consumers.

This certification joins a growing list of ASC-certified BioMar facilities around the world, including sites in Chile, Ecuador, Denmark, Norway, the UK, Costa Rica and France. Together, they form a strong network of ASC conforming production supporting a wide range of species, life stages, and geographies.
