Biomar has completed the acquisition of the remaining 30% stake in BioMar Ecuador, becoming the sole owner of the company and bringing to an end the joint venture established in 2019 with the Lanec family. The transaction is accompanied by a significant industrial expansion plan that will increase production capacity from 300,000 to 410,000 tonnes in 2026.
According to the company, the partnership phase enabled BioMar Ecuador to quadruple feed volumes between 2019 and 2024, consolidating its position in one of the world’s most strategically important shrimp farming markets. While BioMar now assumes full ownership, both parties will continue their relationship through a strategic commercial partnership.
As noted by BioMar Group CEO Carlos Díaz, the move reflects the company’s confidence in the long-term development of Ecuadorian shrimp farming, where the company has shifted in recent years from serving mainly small and medium producers to building long-term collaborations with some of the country’s largest farms.
The capacity expansion currently under way will be achieved through debottlenecking measures and the installation of a new pelletised feed production line, with completion expected in Q3 2026. The investment responds to sustained demand growth and to a shift in the customer base towards larger shrimp producers operating under long-term supply agreement.
Beyond this first phase, BioMar has also outlined plans for a second expansion project, which would add an additional 200,000 – 300,000 tonnes of capacity. This development would require modifications to the site’s infrastructure and would combine pelletised and extruded feed lines. If market conditions evolve as expected, the project could be initiated in the first half of 2026.
With this move, BioMar reinforces its commitment to Ecuador as a strategic hub for the development of more efficient and sustainable shrimp feed solutions, at a time when the sector faces increasing pressure on production efficiency, cost control and environmental performance.
