Claudio Pedroni, President of OP del Pesce and Executive Vice-President of the Italian Fish Farmers’ Association (API) with responsibility for mariculture, has been appointed member of the Market Advisory Council (MAC), an advisory body recognised by the European Commission. Pedroni will serve as the sole Italian representative for the aquaculture sector within the Council.
The MAC provides opinions and strategic recommendations on market dynamics in fisheries and aquaculture. It brings together representatives from production, processing, distribution and consumer organisations, with the aim of fostering constructive dialogue between institutions and operators, guiding European policies towards more sustainable, competitive and transparent development.
Pedroni’s appointment is seen as recognition of his longstanding work in promoting Italian aquaculture and advancing sustainable and innovative practices. His presence on the MAC ensures that Italy has an authoritative voice in a decision-making arena of strategic importance for the entire seafood supply chain.
“It is an honour to represent Italy and give a voice to the concerns of farmers and operators,” Pedroni said. “The MAC is a vital Council to support the sector’s growth, enhance the competitiveness of businesses and meet European consumers’ expectations in terms of quality, safety and sustainability.”
With this appointment, Claudio Pedroni further consolidates his role as a key figure at both national and European level, strengthening the ties between EU institutions, API and OP del Pesce, to the benefit of the whole value chain and consumers.
