Mowi, the world’s largest producer of Atlantic salmon, has launched a strategic review of its feed manufacturing business, according to the 2025 Salmon Farming Industry Report, recently released by the company. The assessment includes the option of either a full or partial divestment of this major division, which plays a central role in the group’s operations due to its scale and technical expertise.

The company currently has a combined annual production capacity of 700,000 tonnes, split between its facilities in Norway (460,000 tonnes) and Scotland (240,000 tonnes). All output is dedicated to salmon feed, with a strong focus on feed efficiency, fish health, and the sustainable sourcing of raw materials.

In the 2024 financial year, the feed unit generated €1.122 billion in operating revenues and recorded EBITDA of €62 million, according to the report. The division employs around 140 people.

Alongside the strategic review, Mowi has announced plans to build an additional production line at its Norwegian facility, which will add a further 60,000 tonnes of capacity. This expansion, expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2026, strengthens the group’s position in aquaculture nutrition while it explores future organizational options.

The report does not name potential buyers or specify a timeline for a possible sale, but it notes that the review is part of broader strategy aimed at structural optimization and sharper corporate focus.
