The local government of El Puerto de Santa María, in Spain, has approved planning permission for the construction of a Greater Amberjack (Seriola dumerili) indoor farm in the Commercial Fishing Dock at the mouth of the Guadalete river.
The project, spearheaded by Acuicultura Cádiz EME-450.1 SL, has a budget of €5.12 million and is internationally recognised as a pioneering initiative in the aquaculture sector.
The farm will span a 10,000 square-metre plot and employ recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), allowing the facility to rear up to 450 tonnes of Greater Amberjack annually.
This new venture will further bolster the aquaculture cluster in El Puerto de Santa María, which has prioritised “cutting-edge innovation, advanced technology, research, and development” in the field of aquaculture, according to Mayor Germán Beardo.
