BioMar and Caviar d’Aquitaine unite for new Blue Impact feed

BioMar, specialised in aquafeed, has formed a collaboration with the Caviar d'Aquitaine Producers' Association (which includes Group Kaviar, Prunier, L'Esturgeonnière, and Caviar de France) to make sturgeon farming more sustainable by introducing the Blue Impact feed line developed by the manufacturer.

According to BioMar, this collaboration covers over 26% of France’s national caviar production and emphasises a commitment to tradition, environmental stewardship, and societal support.

Designed specifically for sturgeon farming in France, feed formulation addresses key areas of sustainability, including minimising the reliance on scarce marine ingredients, incorporating circular and restorative raw materials, and lowering the carbon footprint by ensuring that raw materials are sustainably sourced.

BioMar emphasised that fish feed account for up to 80% of an aquaculture farm’s environmental impact. With the Blue Impact feed line, the company aims to address these challenges and drive sustainability across the aquaculture value chain.

The statement also highlighted the unique role of the Aquitaine region in reviving sturgeon farming. Its rich tradition and favourable geography, coupled with the dedication of local producers, have helped turn a once-endangered species into a cornerstone of high-quality, sustainable caviar production. Efforts to secure a Protected Geographical Indication for Aquitaine caviar are underway, reinforcing the product’s authenticity and premium quality. 

The Blue Impact Initiative, as described by BioMar, ensures continuous improvement through adaptive feed formulations. Transparency and sustainability remain central, providing consumers with products that meet rigorous environmental and ethical standards. Regular monitoring guarantees adherence to animal welfare and environmental regulations.
