Noray Seafood, the cutting-edge indoor shrimp farm located in Medina del Campo, over 400 kilometers from the coast, welcomes back its founder, Bjorn Aspheim. After a period away from the company, Aspheim resumes leadership at a pivotal time, following Noray’s acquisition by an investment group under his stewardship.
A recognised leader in sustainable tropical shrimp farming, Noray Seafood is known for its innovative approach to aquaculture, thriving far from the sea. The company has become a benchmark in Europe for the production of Vannamei shrimp using land-based, environmentally friendly methods.
Aspheim, speaking to El Norte de Castilla, outlined Noray’s target of producing 100 tonnes of shrimp by the end of this year, with plans to double that output next year. To achieve this, the company is expanding its facilities to include 40 new pre-ongrowing and growing tanks.
While its location on the Castillian plateau might seem an unlikely choice for shrimp farming, it’s a strategic one. Being centrally positioned, Noray can efficiently serve key markets in Spain, Portugal and France within 24 to 48 hours, ensuring fresh delivery.
The company prides itself on its pioneering spirit. Noray was the first indoor shrimp farm globally to achieve ASC certification, reflecting its commitment to responsible aquaculture. Its dedication to sustainability is further demonstrated through initiatives such as a solar power installation and 100% recyclable packaging, championing a circular economy.
Noray Seafood continues to set new standards for sustainable aquaculture in Europe.
