EU Workshop aims to Define Energy Transition Roadmap for Aquaculture

Brussels (Belgium), 17 January 2025 | A pivotal hybrid workshop scheduled for 19 February 2025

Workshop Navigating Energy Transition Aquaculture

The Energy Transition Partnership (ETP) for the EU fisheries and aquaculture sector, under the auspices of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG Mare), has announced a pivotal hybrid workshop scheduled for 19 February 2025. The event, titled “Navigating the Energy Transition: Strategic Goals for Resilient and Sustainable Aquaculture,” aims to chart a comprehensive energy transition roadmap for the aquaculture sector.

Set to run from 9:00 to 13:30 CET, the workshop will take place both online and in Brussels, offering accessibility to a diverse audience. To encourage inclusivity, online participations will benefit from transcription services in all 24 EU languages, and interpretation can be arranged upon request for both in-person and virtual attendees.

The workshop’s central focus is threefold: defining how the aquaculture sector, spanning both inland and offshore systems, can spearhead its energy transition by 2050; identifying and addressing critical challenges that could impede progress; and pinpointing solutions and tools to ensure the sector advances steadily toward its goals. Through case studies and expert insights, attendees will engage in informed discussions designed to foster actionable recommendations.

The ETP’s broader mission is to facilitate the EU’s transition to climate neutrality by 2050 through collaboration across industries, research institutions, and NGOs. This workshop represents a critical milestone in a series of events aimed at uniting stakeholders to promote sustainability practices and innovative solutions for energy efficiency. The discussions will feed directly into the development of the Energy Transition roadmap, set to be published by the end of 2025.

Spaces for in-person participation are limited, and early registration is strongly encouraged. Registered participants will receive detailed agendas and access links closer to the event date.

By convening experts from across the sector, the ETP seeks to galvanise collective action toward a resilient and sustainable aquaculture industry, with an emphasis on decarbonization and energy innovation. For more information on the ETP’s activities and how to participate, visit their official website.

This workshop promises to be a cornerstone event, bringing together leaders and stakeholders to shape the future of aquaculture in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
