The European Commission has defined the framework for the forthcoming Economic Report on the EU Aquaculture, expected in October, which will focus primarily on economic data for 2023 and 2024, while incorporating 2025 information where available.
The STECF EWG 26-12 and EWG 26-13 expert groups are working on production, sales, revenue, costs, employment, investment, business structure and profitability, with analysis by main species and production systems.
The terms of reference warn that statistical coverage remains uneven, particularly in freshwater aquaculture, where part of the economic data collection continues to be voluntary.
Where comparable data are missing, STECF will draw on Eurostat and FAO and use estimates to build consistent EU-level aggregates. The report will also assess economic performance in both nominal and real terms.
As part of its service to the aquaculture sector, misPeces will report on the findings once the data become available for analysis.
