La reunión de miembros de IFFO (The Marine Ingredients Organisation), celebrada los esta semana en Madrid, ha concluido con una cifra récord de asistencia: 267 delegados procedentes de 36 países. Durante las jornadas, 21 ponentes abordaron las últimas tendencias del mercado y el papel estratégico de los ingredientes marinos en la nutrición animal y la salud humana.
Madrid played host to IFFO’s Members’ Meeting this week, bringing together a record-breaking 267 delegates from 36 countries. Over the course of the two-day event, 21 expert speakers examined market trends, key industry drivers, and the evolving role of marine ingredients in both animal nutrition and human health.
A central focus was the positive outlook for global aquaculture, which is projected to grow by 22% by 2050. This growth is seen as essential to maintaining current levels of aquatic animal consumption. “This expansion is not just necessary; it is achievable, thanks to the advancements in responsible practices and innovation. We now have tangible evidence that well-managed fisheries are delivering results. This is a testament to the effectiveness of science-based policies and industry collaboration,” said Petter Martin IFFO’s Director General.
The event also highlighted efficiency improvement in the use of raw materials. Notably, the continued growth of aquaculture has not led to greater demand for wild-cauch fish to produce fishmeal and fish oil. This has been made possible by the adoption of precision nutrition, where marine ingredients are used strategically at key stages of fish development-now a cornerstone of modern aquafeed formulations.
With around 40% of marine ingredients now sourced from fish by-products, the sector is placing increasing emphasis on maximizing resource use and reducing waste, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.
