The University of Stirling has secured £2.4 million for a four-year project addressing antimicrobial resistance in Vietnam’s pangasius farming sector. Led by Professor Margaret Crumlish, the international team will investigate how resistance develops and what prevents farmers from adopting alternatives to antibiotics.
Working with producers, policymakers and industry stakeholders, the project will draw on previous fish vaccine research to co-develop a research roadmap and practical framework for more responsible antibiotic use. The approach could subsequently be adapted to other countries facing similar challenges in freshwater aquaculture.
